William HIRAM BUSER (family history)

SOURCE: PIONEER BUSER FAMILIES AND THEIR DESCENDANTS by Kenneth K. Buser

WILLIAM HIRAM BUSER born DECEMBER 19, 1836 was the first of the family to be in Xenia, Ohio. He lived there until 1855 when he migrated to Ladoga, Indiana to join his brother JOSHUA. While there he made his living at cabinet making andaughter ofr other carpenter work. He purchased Lot # 36 on the north side of Taylor Street between Sycamore and Hickory Streets in Ladoga on May 19, 1860. The purchase price was $100 and was later sold for $95 on September 22, 1863 thereby losing $5 on the deal. He was made Master Mason in Ladoga Lodge # 187 on September 27, 1860 and was demitted to Waveland Lodge #300 November 3, 1863. Only a few weeks later he married SARA ALLEN December 24, 1863. They made their early home on farms east and south of New Market, Indiana where they became the parents of nine children. During 1891 and 1892 Mr. BUSER engaged in a business partnership with his son-in-law, MARCUS BECKNER at 132 South Washington Street, Crawfordsville, Indiana. It is possible that this business arrangement may have continued on through 1893 and 1894; but the city directory of 1895 shows the firm to SANDERS and BECKNER. Since records are not available for 1893 and 1894 it has not been determined when the change took place. Apparently Mr. and Mrs. BUSER remained on the farm until around the turn of the century. The city directory of 1903 shows them at 514 East Jefferson Street, Crawfordville but it wasn't long after this that they moved to the west side of New Market, Indiana where they spent the remainder of their lives. Mrs. BUSER died September 23, 1917 while Mr. BUSER lived until September 30, 1925. Both are buried in the Freedom Cemetery about five miles south west of New Market. 1860 Census Montgomery County Clark Twp P 412 Household # 183 BUSER Joshua 26 Master Carpenter $1000/1000 Maryland Susan 21 KY Ida E 2 IN WILLIAM BUSER age 23 Cabinet Maker $100/300 Ohio 1870 Census Montgomery County Scott Twp # 92 BUSER WILLIAM H. 33 Farmer $9200/1200 Ohio Sarah E 30 IN Mary L 5 IN Susan A 5 IN William H 3 IN John H 2/12 born March WILLIAM HIRAM BUSER is listed in the Scott township peoples guide of Montgomery County,IN as follows: BUSER, W.H.
